They are Youyu Lu (BOD Chair), Haibo Niu (BOD Vice Chair), Jinyu Sheng (Principal), Jason Gu (Vice Principal), Limei Li (Vice Principal and Assistant to Principal), Li Zhai (Vice Principal and Treasurer), Chunmei Yu (Assistant Treasurer), Mei Wang (Chair of Recreation and Representative of Teachers), Jifeng Zhang (Chair of Parent Committee), Ella Zhao (Vice Chair of Parent Committee), Xiaoqi Zhang (Member of Parent Committee) and Jinghua Li (Member of Parent Committee), as well as Bill Bu, Michael Ruan, Eric Young and Genlou Sun (Honorary BOD Chairs). The election of the BOD is consistent with the legal requirement relevant to the status of HCLS as being an officially registered non-profit organization.

II: Review of Activities in 2017

In 2017, HCLS has focused on its core function of providing a unique opportunity and environment for the students to learn Chinese language, improve math skills, and foster interests and skills in art drawing. We provided safety supervision during recess, organized the 2017 Chinese New Year party and the fall BBQ picnic, and maintained the school’s website (www.halifaxcls.ca). HCLS organized the students and their parents to participate in various community activities, in particular the celebrations of Canada 150.

We hope that the BOD of the 2018 term will further promote the school, improve the teaching programs, enhance the communication with parents of the students, and consider the planning activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of HCLS.

IV: Acknowledgements

BOD members would like to express their appreciation to teachers for their hard work and dedication to teaching, and many volunteers for their help in teaching, safety supervision, organizing school activities, and promoting HCLS. We would also like to thank the students and their parents for choosing HCLS during the past year. The Chair would also like to express his gratitude to the BOD members for their support and hard work throughout the year.
